Louisiana Web site hosts music chat session

LAFAYETTE, La.--The Louisiana tourism Web site will host a live interactive chat and audio broadcast with Louisiana's own Michael Doucet of six-time Grammy nominated Beausoleil and Angelique Kidjo, a Grammy nominated West African performer, on Friday, April 23, 1999 from 6-8pm (www.louisianatravel.com/chat).

Both musicians will be featured at the 13th annual Festival International de Louisiane (fil.net-connect.net) which is a Francophone visual and performing arts festival hosting a series of free concerts in Lafayette, LA beginning April 20-25, 1999. This festival is part of the statewide FrancoFÛte celebration, commemorating Louisiana's variety of unique music influenced by France, Canada and beyond.

Doucet and Beausoleil will perform at the festival from 8-9pm on Saturday, April 24. Kidjo will close the evening's entertainment with a show from 11pm to midnight.

"As the tourism industry evolves, the Louisiana Office of Tourism is aggressively pursuing the most advanced mediums for promoting the state as a premiere travel destination. Our award winning Web site is a good example of how Louisiana has remained on the cutting edge of technology in this rapidly growing medium," said Lt. Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, who oversees the efforts of the Louisiana Office of Tourism and this year's FrancoFÛte celebration.

In conjunction with FrancoFÛte, The Louisiana Office of Tourism and Festival International de Louisiane is offering the opportunity for anyone to chat with these top performing artists and listen to interviews through Real Audio. Doucet and Kidjo will answer any questions and share their love of music with fans. On the Web site, participants can also link to live broadcasts from Festival International de Louisiane as well as sample the music of Beausoleil and Kidjo. Beausoleil is one of the leading Cajun bands in the land, having just marked their 20th anniversary of playing eclectic Cajun dance music. Their sound ranges from traditional Cajun to a more contemporary sound which blends traditional Cajun and Creole sounds with jazz, island rhythms and rock 'n' roll.
