Louisiana tops chart in growth

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The state of Louisiana led the nation in tourism growth for the first quarter of this year, with 5.2 million visitors representing a 32% increase over the same period in 1998.

The result was revealed in a survey conducted by the Travel Industry Association of America.

Louisiana officials attributed the gain in arrivals to the marketing and promotional effort of its FrancoFete celebration.
