LOS CABOS, Mexico -- The company that owns the Marquis Reforma
Hotel in Mexico City is planning to open its second Mexican hotel
in this resort town in December.
Hoteles Marquis is developing the $44 million, 238-room El
Encanto Marquis between the El Dorado and Cabo Real golf courses,
about six miles from the Los Cabos airport.
According to Alejandro Watson, director of marketing for Hoteles
Marquis, the resort will feature 204 junior suites, five
one-bedroom master suites with private pools, one presidential
suite with a private pool and 28 casitas with private pools.
Combined with the resort's central swimming pools, there will be
a total of 44 pools (many of them heated), giving El Encanto
Marquis the distinction of having the most pools of any resort in
Los Cabos, Watson said.
The casitas will be stand-alone, one- and two-bedroom houses
situated between the main hotel and the beach.
The resort has applications pending with Leading Hotels of the
World for its main hotel and with Small Luxury Hotels for its
"[This] means we will be able to market the resort as a
destination unto itself or the main hotel and the casitas
individually," Watson said.
The resort's client mix is expected to be 60% leisure and 40%
group business. In comparison with the area's other full-service
resorts, Watson said it will be positioned between Las Ventanas on
the high end and the Westin Regina and Fiesta Americana.
"We will target the upscale leisure and group market as well as
honeymooners, golfers and fishermen," Watson said.
The hotel will combine contemporary Mexican architecture with
traditional Southwestern Santa Fe artwork and furnishings. All
units will feature private balconies, telephones with voice mail
and dataports, whirl- pool bathtubs, and minibars.
Like its sister property in Mexico City, El Encanto Marquis will
cater to upscale meeting and incentive groups, Watson said. The
hotel will feature the largest conference center in Los Cabos,
capable of accommodating as many as 1,000 guests. The hotel's
ballroom will measure 8,054 square feet.
In addition, the hotel will feature a 24-hour business center,
which will offer complimentary continental breakfast and an evening
Watson said one of the hotel's key selling points will be a
27,000-square-foot full-service spa and fitness center. "It will be
the largest spa in Los Cabos and will emphasize a holistic approach
to spa treatments," he said.
The hotel will employ a full-time golf concierge to book tee
times and handle guests' other golf needs. Watson said hotel guests
will be guaranteed favorable tee times.
The resort will feature two bars and three restaurants,
including one gourmet eatery with an extensive wine cellar.
Rates will start at $404 per person, double, for a junior suite
through May 31. Rates include continental breakfast, which can be
delivered to the guest's room.
