Malaysia Air offers platinum cardholders free ticket

LOS ANGELES -- American Express Platinum Card members are eligible for a free companion ticket on Malaysia Airlines when purchasing a full-fare first or business class ticket through April 30, according to the carrier.

To qualify for the Platinum Card International Airline Program two-for-one offer, clients must pay for the flight with their Platinum Card and travel on the same itinerary from the same gateway.

Malaysia Airlines also is offering a Stopover Program through March 31 that allows travelers to explore 18 destinations in the country while taking advantage of low hotel rates.

The discounted rates include accommodations, daily breakfast, transfers between the airport and hotel, and taxes and service charges. Guided sightseeing tours also are included under the deal, with rates starting at $8 for a full-day trip.

According to the carrier, prices under the program start as low as $11 per night, per person, double occupancy, for a stay in the city of Penang, and increase to $284 per night for accommodations at a five-star property on a private island.

Destinations available through the Stopover Program include Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Ipoh, Johor Bahru, Kuantan, Penang, Kuala Terengganu, Langkawi, Kuching, Lota Bharu, Labuan Island, Sandakan, Miri and Kota Kinabalu.

The offer is based on departure on Malaysia Airlines from either Los Angeles or Newark. Travelers can visit up to two cities of the 18 included in the program.
