Mandara Spa features massages, aromatherapy

SABAH -- Mandara Spa, an operator of resort and day spas, opened a facility at the Magellan Sutera in August.

The two-level building was built from local woods, and many of the furnishings were crafted by local artisans.

The facility houses six spa suites, six treatment rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a boutique and a hair and beauty salon.

Each of the spa suites has its own steam room. Four downstairs units feature an enclosed garden and outdoor Jacuzzi, while two upstairs units have oversize tubs from where guests can view the ocean.

Each treatment room features a private shower.

The Mandara Spa offers a range of treatments conducted by Sabahan locals who were trained at the resort. The spa claims it uses only local ingredients in its spa products, many of which are available for sale at the boutique.

The spa's signature treatment is the Mandara Massage, which is performed by two therapists at the same time. The session incorporates five different massage styles from Japan, Thailand, Hawaii, Sweden and Bali.

In addition to individual treatments, guests can purchase "immersion" packages that combine treatments.

No matter the treatment, every spa session begins with a free aromatherapy footbath. In addition, free mini-massages are available to guests poolside at the Magellan Sutera.
