LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Programs to the Canadian Rockies figure heavily
in Maupintour's 1999 line of Canada holiday season vacations --
three out of five, in fact.
The operator, based here, is touring the region using trains,
helicopters and motorcoaches, with accommodations in luxurious
Canadian Pacific hotels, among other properties.
"They are absolutely breathtaking at Christmas," said Pete
Anderson, a 35-year Maupintour veteran who is the operator's
product manager for Canada, referring to the resorts' holiday
"Everywhere you go there are gorgeous decorations. You have
sleigh rides, caroling, the Christmas parade going on every day at
Banff Springs Hotel and Chateau Lake Louise."
Maupintour's seven-day Rocky Mountaineer Christmas package
spends two nights at Vancouver's historic Hotel Vancouver before
embarking on privately owned Rocky Mountaineer Railtours for a
two-day rail journey (with Santa Claus on board) through the
Rockies using the line's GoldLeaf dome car service.
The rail portion includes an overnight in Kamloops, British
Columbia, and ends in Banff, Alberta, with a one-night stay at the
Banff Springs Hotel.
Christmas itself is celebrated at Lake Louise, Alberta, with a
two-night stay in a lakeview room at Chateau Lake Louise.
The land-only price of the Rocky Mountaineer Christmas package,
which departs Dec. 20, is $1,795 per person, double.
Maupintour's six-day Christmas in the Canadian Rockies tour
starts in Calgary, Alberta, and includes one night at Calgary's
Palliser hotel (at the end of the trip), two nights at the Banff
Springs Hotel and two nights at Chateau Lake Louise, with lakeview
accommodations over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Highlights of the Christmas in the Canadian Rockies program

The seven-day Jasper, Banff & Lake Louise Christmas program
also offers a rail component, using the government-owned VIA Rail
Canadian train for an overnight trip from Vancouver to Jasper,
Clients spend the first night at Vancouver's Pan Pacific Hotel.
In Jasper, clients stay at the Jasper Park Lodge and go by
motorcoach down the scenic Icefield Parkway to Banff for a
two-night stay at the Banff Springs Hotel.
Like the other Canadian Rockies winter packages, clients spend
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at Chateau Lake Louise and enjoy
dinner at the property.
