Maupintour unveils three Africa itineraries for 1999

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Maupintour is offering a new Africa lineup in its 1999 brochure. Three itineraries, each covering a different part of the continent, are featured.

The operator has developed a 21-day East Africa Safari; a 15-day Native Cultures and Wildlife tour of South Africa, and a two-week Moroccan Treasures trip.

Each Maupintour Africa vacation is escorted by a tour manager assisted by local guides who speak English.

The three-week East Africa package features visits to many of the game preserves of the region, including Masai Mara, Samburu and Amboseli in Kenya, plus Ngorongoro Crater, Olduvai Gorge, Lake Manyara and the Serengeti in Tanzania.

In addition, travelers will stay at hostelries like the Ark, next to a watering hole for maximum game viewing, and the Mount Kenya Safari Club, the grande dame of East African resorts. Guests also will attend a farewell dinner in a private home with a local family.

Maupintour is offering departures Jan. 18 through Aug. 23. Air and land rates start at $6,790 per person, double.

The 15-day trip to South Africa features Cape Town and the nearby wine region. Travelers will also stay two nights at Victoria Falls, with a cruise on the Zambezi River, and visit Kruger National Park.

The price of the trip is $5,990 per person, double, for the complete air and land package, with departures scheduled to run from late April to Nov. 1.

The operators' 15-day Moroccan Treasures includes a private expedition into the Sahara desert. It also covers the Imperial Cities of Marrakesh and Fez and takes in Tangier and Casablanca, as well.

Trip prices begin at $3,800 per person, double.
