Meetings facility, golf school open in Mont-Tremblant; resort on the way

MONT-TREMBLANT, Quebec -- A new hotel, conference facility and golf academy will greet visitors to this resort area, located 90 minutes by car north of Montreal.

The $32 million Tremblant Westin Resort is scheduled to open in September with 126 one- to three-bedroom suites on six floors.

The two- and three-bedroom units will have kitchenettes.

Facilities and amenities will include a concierge, a European-style spa, a fitness center, six conference rooms, a ballroom and an outdoor swimming pool with a whirlpool.

Two restaurants will serve Japanese and French bistro fare.

Rates will start at $200 per room, double.

On the meetings front, last month marked the opening of a 23,000-square-foot conference center, Centre des Congres.

The $13 million center features room for approximately 1,000 people, 12 conference rooms, a business center with secretarial services, an outdoor deck with room for 136 people, banquet services and the latest in audiovisual equipment.

The conference center is in addition to a 17,000-square-foot conference center at the Chateau Mont-Tremblant resort, bringing the total amount of meetings space to 40,000 square feet.

For golfers, the new Tremblant Golf Academy opened in May, next to the clubhouse at Le Diable golf course.

The $1.8 million academy can serve up to 60 golfers per day, with four students assigned to one instructor.

The facility features 11 target greens, six sand-play areas, a large short-game area and three putting and chipping greens.

Packages including golf lessons and hotel accommodations are available.

Two-day packages start at $425 per person, including 12 hours of lessons, use of a cart, daily breakfast and lunch and shuttle service from the hotel.
