Melia Puerto Vallarta gets $800,000 spruce-up

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico -- The Melia Puerto Vallarta All-Inclusive Beach Resort recently completed an $800,000 renovation program.

The project included improvements to all rooms, public spaces and landscaping; new cardiovascular and weight-training equipment for the gym; expanded children's club activities; enhanced nightly entertainment staging, and an upgrade of the hotel's computer systems.

Also as part of the upgrade, the resort offers guest memberships at the nearby La Marina Golf Club, an 18-hole Joe Fingers-designed course, where players receive a 25% golf shop discount along with special golf package deals.

Located in the exclusive Marina Vallarta district, the nine-story, 370-room resort offers views of either the Pacific Ocean or the Banderas Bay marina.

The resort's three restaurants serve local and international cuisine and feature after-dinner entertainment.

Its three lounges, including one swim-up bar, serve unlimited imported drinks, wine and beer.

Evening entertainment ranges from theme parties and stand-up comedy to extravaganzas.

The resort boasts the area's largest swimming pool (shaped like Picasso's "Peace Dove"); 7,039 square feet of meetings space accommodating up to 800 people; tennis courts; children's activities; an array of water activities and nonmotorized water sports, and scuba demonstrations in the hotel pool.

The property expanded its children's program with the addition of Club Cuatro, which was designed for infants and children up to the age of 4.

Club Cuatro is the only program offered for that age group by a Puerto Vallarta hotel.

The complimentary club, staffed by child-care specialists, is available daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The resort's expanded miniclub provides entertainment for children ages 4 to 12.

Activities for kids include a welcome party, birthday parties, beach activities, pool games, handicrafts, movies, drawing, building sand castles, volleyball, tennis, a minidisco, a dance club and children's dinners.

The children also stage their own plays.

Through Dec. 22, the inclusive rates start at $125 per person, per night, based on double occupancy.

Two children under age 7 can share a room with their parents at no charge.

Children ages 7 to 12 pay half price.
