Memories to pay off for Algonquin guests

NEW YORK -- The Algonquin Hotel, which recently reopened following a $3 million renovation, is offering a rate of $239 per night through the end of the year.

In addition, the 174-room hotel launched a search for hotel memorabilia.

Guests sending in their old room keys, menus, borrowed ashtrays and monogrammed towels, among other items, will be given $25 off the room rate during their next stay.

One free night per item will be awarded to those who part with items that the hotels general manager deems worthy of display in the hotel.

To qualify, memorabilia must date prior to 1980 and be accompanied with a brief description of the item and the guests memories of the Algonquin at the time.

Submissions should be addressed to: The Algonquin Hotel, Memorabilia Search, Att: General Manager, 59 W. 44th St., New York, N.Y. 10036.

The $3 million renovation project entailed restoring the hotel lobby; upgrading meetings rooms; increasing bathroom space; installing new carpeting and window treatments; and providing new beds and bedding. Flat-screen TVs were added in many of the rooms.
