Metal Detectors at Empire State

NEW YORK -- Metal detectors were installed at the Empire State Building following a gunman's attack on the Observation Deck that left one victim dead and six wounded on Feb. 23. The gunman also was killed.

Last year, 3 million people viewed Manhattan from the famous, 66-year-old skyscraper.

Other New York landmark attractions installed metal detectors in the wake of the World Trade Center bombing in 1993, including the Statue of Liberty and the United Nations.
