Mexico Tourism Ministry plans tourist fee

NEW YORK -- Mexico's Tourism Ministry is planning a $15 tourist card fee.

Overland visitors crossing the border who travel farther than 26 kilometers (about 16 miles) into the country would pay at existing checkpoints.

It is not yet clear how and where the fee would be collected from airline passengers and whether it would apply to cruises. The revenue will be used for tourism promotion and safety.
