Mississippi coast sets spring pilgrimage

GULFPORT, Miss. -- The 54th annual Gulf Coast Spring Pilgrimage kicks off March 8.

The event includes nine days of complimentary tours of the Mississippi Gulf Coast's gardens, private homes and historic buildings.

Each year, close to 20,000 visitors participate in the pilgrimage, according to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention & Visitors Bureau.

This year's pilgrimage theme is "Discovery: Ships to Rocket Ships."

More than 60 stops will be included on the tour. Traditional favorites include the opening floral expo and the grand finale jazz concert.

Coastal cities Gautier, Pascagoula, Moss Point, Ocean Springs, Biloxi, Gulfport, Long Beach, Pass Christian, Diamondhead, Bay St. Louis and Waveland are included in the tour, sponsored by the Mississippi Gulf Coast Council of Garden Clubs.

A list of tour operators packaging trips to the Gulf Coast is available from the Mississippi Gulf Coast CVB.

Almost all packages pay 10% agent commission.
