Molokai Ranch mountain-biking product features new rentals, trails, guided rides

MAUNALOA TOWN, Hawaii -- The Molokai Ranch developed a mountain-biking product that includes bike rentals, new trails, a new skills course and accommodations in tent-cabins.

Molokai Ranch has a main lodge and three tent-cabin camps spread about the property. With its dirt roads and desert-like terrain, the ranch is well-suited for mountain biking, and the resort already has 40 new mountain bikes for rent.

A mountain-bike Roughriders' package is available through June 30 and from September through Dec. 22 at the ranch's Paniolo Village, one of the tent-cabin camps.

Rates are $189 a night for two people and include all meals, use of a mountain bike, a guided ride each morning and tent-cabin accommodations.

There are several guided rides included in the package.

  • The Morning Gravity Ride is seven-and-a-half miles downhill on a single-track trail.
  • The Morning Trial Loop offers riding on different trails and a flexible skill level.
  • Mountain Bike 101 is a basic bike-handling course for a half-day, and Mountain Bike 201 constitutes instruction on a higher level.
  • Skills Corral, at an additional cost of $30, is a course that traverses a rock garden, with ramps and other obstacles to ride on or around.
  • In addition to having dirt roads for mountain biking, the resort cut new trails for bikers with various skill levels. The trails have names such as Blood Drive, Ditch of Doom, Eager Beaver and Keoki's Trail.
