N.Y.'s hotel hot line is ready to go

NEW YORK -The city's Convention & Visitors Bureau rolled out the latest version of its Peak Season Hotel Hotline. The toll-free number, (800) 846-7666, is designed to help travelers secure hotel rooms in every category and price range.

The bureau said that most of the city's hotels are participating in the service, which will be in operation through Jan. 2. Requests for rooms also can be faxed to (800) 511-5317 or (212) 924-7935.

Availability can be checked and rooms booked through the bureau's Web site, at www.nycvisit.com. Commission is 5%. A record 34 million tourists are expected to visit the city in 1998 and spend more than $14 billion on hotels, sightseeing and cultural institutions, according to the bureau.
