NWA unveils bonus mile plan for Detroit-Shanghai service

DETROIT -- Northwest Airlines launched the Destination China bonus miles promotion in conjunction with its new Detroit-Shanghai nonstop service.

The promotion enables customers traveling roundtrip from cities in North America to Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong to receive up to 10,000 WorldPerks bonus miles when traveling on first class or world business class fares.

Coach passengers will receive up to 5,000 bonus miles depending on the specific fare type.

To register for the offer, travelers must be WorldPerks members and need to call the WorldPerks promotion center at (800) 508-2000 or sign up on line at www.nwa.com/offers/shanghai.

Customers should enter registration number 5664 when prompted.

Membership in WorldPerks is free and can be obtained by calling (800) 447-3757 or via Northwest's Web site.

To earn the Destination China bonus miles, WorldPerks members must register at least one week prior to travel but no later than May 30 and fly between April 6 and June 30.

Northwest will inaugurate nonstop Detroit-Shanghai service on April 6.

The twice-weekly flights, which will provide connections from throughout the U.S., complement Northwest's Detroit-Beijing nonstop service -- the only nonstop flights between North America and China operated by a U.S. airline.

Northwest also provides daily connecting flights to Hong Kong via its hub at Tokyo Narita Airport.
