NYC approves plans for airport rail link

The New York City Council approved construction of Airtrain, the $1.5 billion high-speed rail link between the Jamaica Center train station in the borough of Queens and Kennedy Airport. The Port Authority said a ride from Manhattan to the airport will take a total of 45 minutes and cost $5. Passengers would have to switch from the Long Island Railroad or the subway at Jamaica Center to the elevated train in order to get to Kennedy. Construction should be completed by 2003.
