New Look at the Grosvenor Thistle

LONDON -- The Grosvenor Thistle completed the first stage of a major renovation project.

The 366-room hotel, located near Victoria Station, first opened in 1861.

Today, the refurbished property has a new facade with exterior floodlighting.

Inside, the lobby has been transformed and now has a marble staircase and a larger reception area.

The Lounge, which offers 24-hour meal service, also has been refurbished and its two original fireplaces restored.

Plans for 1997 include the reconstruction of 69 bedrooms and redesigning the Clarence Restaurant.

Thistle Hotels has 51 properties in the U.K..

A $60 million refurbishment program is under way, which includes the upgrading of four-star Mount Charlotte hotels to the Thistle brand.
