New York in 2007 achieved the top spot among U.S. cities for dollars spent by visitors, according to a Global Insight study.
The Big Apple had been No. 3 behind Orlando and Las Vegas, but in 2007 New York's 46 million visitors spent $28.85 billion, a 16% jump over 2006.
The city benefits hugely from its appeal in overseas markets. International travelers comprised 19% of all person-trips last year but accounted for 54% of visitor spending.
