New Yorkers travel to Big Easy with NYC & Co.-sponsored 'mission'

NEW YORK -- Close to 200 New Yorkers plus several dozen NYC & Co. board members and other civic leaders traveled to New Orleans Feb. 10 to 12 on a mission announced late last month to show support for the Big Easy as it attempts to rebuild its vital tourism business in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

NYC & Co. and other planners said prior to last weekends trip that they wanted to show support for a city that had been supportive of New York after the 9/11 terrorist attacks here, and they hoped many other travelers would follow.

Cristyne Nicholas, NYC & Co. president and CEO, said, We expect New York City will be just the first of many travel missions to New Orleans over the coming months.

William Rudin, chairman of the Association for a Better New York, said, As New Yorkers, it is our duty to help New Orleans get back on its feet and to lead by example, starting with this trip so the world knows that it is open for business.
