SANTA FE, N.M. -- Tishman Hotel Corp. took over management of the Eldorado Hotel, Santa Fes largest property, in September.

The hotels owner, Guardian Eldorado, said the appointment is part of a strategy to enhance the stature of the 219-room property as a destination hotel.

We are moving in a new direction, which will entail various capital projects and an overall shift in our marketing strategy, said a spokesman for Guardian Eldorado.

One project is a spa that is scheduled to open in December. The spa is being built on the first level of the hotel in an area where retail outlets were previously located. It will include seven treatment rooms.

At press time, the Eldorado had not introduced spa packages, but it expects to create them for the holiday season, according to Rick Ammons, director of sales and marketing.

The hotels Romance package starts at $897 per couple and includes a three-night stay, a bottle of champagne, breakfast in bed each morning, massages, a candlelight dinner and monogrammed robes.

The Eldorado, built in 1986, was designed in New Mexicos pueblo-revival architectural style. No changes are planned for the Old House restaurant, the hotels eatery.

The Eldorado, located next to the Santa Fe Plaza, has a ballroom for groups of up to 500 and a penthouse patio.
