SYDNEY, Australia -- Organizers for the Gay Games VI, set for Nov. 2 to 9 here, said they expect about 8,000 North American visitors to attend.

The games' athletic and cultural events are expected to draw about 14,000 participants from 60 countries in addition to 25,000 spectators, organizers said.

A list of wholesalers and their travel packages with event tickets is available at the Australian Tourism Commission's new Web site, at www.gay.australia.com.

The standard games package sold on the site ranges in price from $2,199 to $2,599 per person, double.

It includes roundtrip air from Los Angeles to Sydney, domestic flights, four nights' accommodations in Sydney during the games, a ticket for the opening or closing ceremonies, four nights' accommodations in Cairns and four nights' accommodations in Melbourne.

Tickets for individual events are available at www.sydney2002.org.au.

A cultural festival will accompany the games from Oct. 25 through Nov. 9. There are five dance parties scheduled during that time: a welcome party Nov. 2; a sunset party Nov. 3; Butch, a women-only party, Nov. 6; a men-only party called the Black Party Nov. 7; and a farewell party Nov. 9.

For games participants, registration costs $195 and is open through July 31. Anyone can participate, and there are no qualifying events. Registration for athletic events is available on the Web site.
