GREAT GUANA CAY, Bahamas -- About a five-minute cart ride from
Dolphin Beach Resort here is Nippers on the Beach, one of the only
places for entertainment on this island in the Abaco chain.
The trip to Nippers is along winding roads, past the clapboard
cottages that house the island's 80 or so residents.
Nippers' claim to fame is a wild boar roast and barbecue on
Sundays. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner.
Sandwiches, seafood and burgers are the standard fare, with
specialties such as the Chicken "Whatever" platter and sandwich and
Swim and Turf, a combination of grilled dolphin, tuna or wahoo and
New York strip steak.
Colorful tables and umbrellas and a wooden bar overlook an empty
beach and the turquoise ocean.
The restaurant added a pool in 1998, complete with a swim-up bar
and water slide.
