Nordic Saga marks Bergen's cultural status with custom tours

SEATTLE -- As Bergen, Norway, celebrates its reign as one of Europe's nine Cities of Culture in 2000, Nordic Saga Tours is prepared to arrange special itineraries there.

The company, based here, has offered custom-designed group packages to the Nordic region since 1995, focusing on Norway in particular.

Bergen, Norway, is a European City of Culture for 2000. Above is the Bergen fish market. According to general manager Kari Johannessen, customizing tours to a group's special interest is a highlight for the Nordic Saga staff.

"One of our more memorable arrangements was for a Florida Choir group in Norway. During a 12-day tour, we were able to coordinate their schedules to practice with a Norwegian choir group and perform in a concert in Bergen and at the Skien Festival," Johannessen said.

Nordic Saga's staff is of Scandinavian origin, so they're well acquainted with the languages and customs of the countries they sell, she added.

The company also offers scheduled escorted tours to varied combinations of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Russia. Departures for most tours are scheduled in June, July and August.

Nordic Saga also has pre-packaged unescorted and individual tours and will arrange hotel and transportation packages.
