HONOLULU -- Traveltime, based in San Luis Obispo, Calif., was named Travel Agency of the Year for 2001 by the Oahu Visitors Bureau.

According to the OVB, Traveltime increased its Oahu sales by 30% in 2001 compared with 2000.

Traveltime beat out four other agencies for the top spot: the Travel Shop of Portland, Ore.; Peak Travel in San Jose, Calif.; Patterson Travel of Sacramento, Calif.; and Travel Lifestyles of Houston.

Traveltime was nominated by Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays as the top agency for its "expert destination knowledge, unique selling techniques, intuitive marketing strategies and enthusiasm," according to the OVB.

Les Enderton, OVB executive director, said Traveltime has successfully brought repeat visitors to Oahu "while at the same time building a base of first-time visitors."

And in addition to repeat visitors, Traveltime sends its agents to Oahu twice a year, according to the OVB.

"We have always believed Oahu is the best value vacation destination for people who live in our market area, or who live in small communities, because it offers a tropical beach resort atmosphere with the amenities of a big city -- and prices are very reasonable," said Ernie Petrich, Traveltime owner.

Traveltime employs 40 agents in 10 offices, all located in southwestern California.
