Operator slates 30 itineraries for millennium

EL CERRITO, Calif. -- Mountain Travel Sobek is marketing more than 30 trips to ring in 2000. The following is a sampling:

  • The Antarctic Millennium Expedition, offered Dec. 18 to Jan. 8, explores the Antarctic Peninsula plus South George and the Falkland Islands.
  • The Serengeti Migration Safari, offered from Dec. 23 to Jan. 5, enables clients to observe millions of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle as they make their annual trek across Africa's Serengeti Plain in search of food and water.
  • Falkland's Whalebone Monument

  • Marrakesh Express: The Camel Trek, offered Dec. 25 to Jan. 8, explores the streets of Marrakesh and Fez, Morocco, the Sahara by camel and on foot and several other cities.
  • Kayaking with the Kuna Indians, offered Dec. 26 to Jan. 9, features sea kayaking through Panama's San Blas Islands and learning about the culture, myths and traditions of the Kuna Indians.
  • The Trekking and Tigers expedition, offered Dec. 21 to Jan. 2 and Dec. 26 to Jan. 7, is geared to first-time trekkers who want a taste of the Himalayas. Trip members travel on foot through the villages of the Annapurna foothills in Nepal, then ride an elephant, board dugout canoes and take walks in search of the elusive Bengal tiger in Royal Chitwan National Park.
