PATA Task Force Seeks to Shift Headquarters to Singapore

SAN FRANCISCO -- A task force of the Pacific Asia Travel Association recommended that the tourism promotion organization move its headquarters from here to Singapore. PATA's board of directors approved the yearlong study's 11 recommendations, the most controversial of which is the anticipated move to Singapore. Although the report did not set a relocation date, previous statements by the organization point to a move sometime around 2000.

If the move occurs, PATA said it will maintain marketing offices in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The report also recommended a review of PATA's membership structure in relation to dues and services and the construction of a flexible, three-year rolling business plan instead of the current one-year plan.

In other news, PATA interviewed six candidates for its vacant president-chief executive officer position; a decision is expected in three to four weeks.
