BANGKOK, Thailand -- The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA)
said it will launch a sales push in South America June 18 to 21, in
an effort to boost outbound travel to Pacific Asia destinations
from the region.
During the four-day mission, PATA members will meet with tour
operators, travel agents and the media in Santiago, Chile (June
18); Sao Paulo, Brazil (June 19); Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (June 20),
and Buenos Aires, Argentina (June 21).
According to PATA, between 1995 and 1999, the number of South
Americans who visited Pacific Asia countries increased 23%, from
just over 12.5 million to just under 15.5 million.
PATA noted that Sao Paulo houses the largest population of
Japanese citizens living outside of Japan.
