PRTC top job vacant again

SAN JUAN -- The top slot at the Puerto Rico Tourism Co. is once again vacant.

Five months after being named by Gov. Sila Calderon to head PRTC, Jorge Pesquera's nomination was voted down by the governor's own Popular Democratic party majority in the Puerto Rican Senate.

Cantero Frau, economic development and commerce secretary, was named as interim director of PRTC while a search for a permanent head takes place.

Pesquera, who has 25 years' experience in the tourism industry, was reappointed to his old job as executive director of the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau.

The destination's new convention center is slated to open in San Juan in 2004.
