Pampering deal set in the Big Apple

NEW YORK -- The Beekman Tower Hotel, which has been designated as a landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, is offering prewedding pampering packages.

The Grooming the Groom and Bride & Groom Pre-Honeymoon Prep packages start at $100.

Hair and makeup services for the bridal party are offered, including a rehearsal day for hairstyle and makeup and on-site preparation for the wedding day. Services are provided by the new Le Petit Spa, located adjacent to Manhattan East's nearby Dumont Plaza Hotel.

Group rates are available.

The ballroom accommodates weddings of up to 110 guests, and Top of the Tower can host up to 125.

The hotel staff will arrange for bands, disc jockeys, florists, photographers, beauticians, parking garages and other services such as clergymen and witnesses.

A complimentary deluxe suite is available for the newlyweds on the wedding night. For wedding guests, the hotel offers spacious studio, one- and two-bedroom suites, all with fully equipped kitchens.

Guests can enjoy a cocktail hour or the wedding reception itself at the Top of the Tower, which has glass-enclosed terraces. The catering staff can plan a custom menu.

Options include hors d'oeuvres of smoked salmon triangles with capers on black bread or salmon caviar on potato pancakes. Main course options include medallions of filet mignon in a bearnaise sauce or Norwegian salmon au poivre in a cabernet butter sauce.

Desserts include chocolate truffle cake with brandied whipped cream or chocolate mousse. Butler-passed hors d'oeuvres and premium-brand beverage service are other options.

The hotel, which features classic 1920's architecture and decor, has modern services and amenities. The art deco ambience of the lobby includes an Inglenook settee, Beekman light sconces and dark teal leather club chairs.

All 174 suites have been updated with new wall coverings, windows, carpeting and furniture.

A recent $5 million refurbishment added amenities such as marble baths with phones, 25-inch TVs, VCRs, dataports, improved lighting, two-line phones with voice mail, and fax machines in all of the property's one-bedroom suites.

A 24-hour gym has new Cybex machines, treadmills and his and her's saunas.

The hotel's Top of the Tower restaurant, named one of the "Best Places to Kiss in New York" by the book of the same name, was refurbished with an updated decor of cobalt velvet drapes and stainless steel and copper accents. A freestanding bar was added to the lounge, which is on the 26th floor.

Beekman Tower Hotel, at 49th Street and First Avenue, is one of 10 Manhattan East Suite Hotels, the city's largest all-suites hotel group.
