Parks-attractions meet slated in Dallas

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The 80th annual convention and trade show of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) will be held in Dallas from Nov. 16 to 20.

Association officials said that more than 1,200 companies are expected to exhibit at this year's show.

Nearly 100 product categories will be shown, organizers said, including hard rides, high-technology attractions, show productions, food, games, machinery and equipment.

More than 25,000 people, including 25% from abroad, are expected to attend.

Attendees will have access to more than 40 workshops, covering such topics as:

  • Creative staffing.
  • Benefitting from technology.
  • Managing to have fun.
  • Merchandising for the millennium.
  • Branding in food service.
  • Go-kart operations.
  • The future of theme entertainment.
  • Some workshops will be simultaneously translated into Spanish, others interpreted into sign language.

    A few special events have been scheduled for the show:

  • The IAAPA Annual Business Meeting and Service awards presentation.
  • What's New Theater.
  • The General Managers and Owners' Luncheon.
  • In addition, on Nov. 19 there will be a "Sensation at Six Flags Over Texas," performance; on Nov. 20 a "Good 'Ol Texas Traditions" performance for attending spouses and, on Nov. 21, a Lone Star Gala at Southfork Ranch.
