MIAMI -- Parrot Jungle Island, the successor to Parrot Jungle and Gardens, which operated in Miami from 1936 until last December, will re-open June 28 in a new location on Watson Island off the Florida coast between Miami and South Beach.

The theme park previously drew 300,000 guests annually, the company said, of which about 70% were local residents.

With the new location and attractions, owner Bern Levine, a veterenarian and bird breeder who purchased the theme park in 1988, is hoping to increase the percentage of visitors from out of state.

The 18.6-acre park will house more than 3,000 exotic animals, nurture 1,000 plant species and feature animal shows, plant nurseries, a petting farm and other educational exhibits.

Admission will be $23.95 a day for adults and $18.95 a day for children.
