SAN JUAN --- Jorge Pesquera, CEO of the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau, resigned his post, effective Feb. 27, and will move to Aruba in March as president and CEO of the Aruba Hotel & Tourism Association, replacing Horace Hord, who is retiring after four years in the position.

Pesquera has been with the PRCB for 10 years, except for a brief period in 2000 when he served as executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Co. He was named CEO of the convention bureau in July 2001.

Puerto Rico's new convention center is on track for an opening in mid-2005. The massive facility "will make Puerto Rico the meetings hub of the Americas," Pesquera said in a recent interview.

The facility is the centerpiece of a 113-acre, $415 million planned urban development project that will include hotels, shops, restaurants, offices and residential units.
