Peter Island offers choice of retreats

By Gay Nagle Myers

PETER ISLAND, British Virgin Islands -- Resort guests who truly want to get away from it all have lots of choices, including five beaches and 20 secluded coves.

Two additional retreats are Reading Ridge and Stranded Cove.

  • Reading Ridge is perched above Deadman's Bay Beach with views of Norman Island, which served as the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's novel "Treasure Island."
  • The resort library stocks both classic as well as contemporary novels.

  • Stranded Cove is accessible only by a resort yacht that transports guests, along with a gourmet picnic lunch and chilled wine, for a private play date.
  • The voluntary castaways radio the resort to come to rescue them when they want to return to reality.
