Philly sets Cupid plans

WASHINGTON -- After blocking rooms for the NBA All-Star Game, Philadelphia hoteliers are trying to recover from the cancellation of the four-night extravaganza by offering deals for Valentine's Day weekend.

Eighteen hotels had blocked off 5,000 rooms for the event in mid-February.

The city is cosponsoring a "Love is More Than a Game" campaign to promote hotel deals for Valentine's Day weekend. The city also is extending the hours of its annual jazz festival to encourage people to stay overnight.

Participating hotels are offering a special rate and amenities, and some cultural organizations are offering a two-for-one admission to visitors who present their hotel keys or folders.

For a list of participants and other information, agents can call (800) 537-7676.

The Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association estimates about 20% of the blocked-off room nights have been filled.
