Photo tour firm plans Norway trip

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.Y. -- Photo Adventure Tours here is taking shutterbugs to Norway this summer.

From July 21 to 31, professionals and point-and-shooters alike can get tips from one another and from experienced escorts while exploring the Nordic country's culture and landscape.

Clients will fly into the capital city, Oslo, and transfer by motorcoach to the town of Alesund for two days.

Alesund was awarded a national prize for preservation of its Art Nouveau architecture. Its turn-of-the-century facades are interspersed with spires and turrets bearing traces of Norwegian architecture with dragon heads and other symbols.

Excursion options in Alesund include a day to explore the nearby island of Runde for bird-watching and a day spent at the Geirangerfjord, taking in its steep mountains and many waterfalls.

The fourth day will feature a drive to Hellesylt to see the waterfall there and a visit to Oye, in the Norangsfjord.

While in Oye, visitors can choose an excursion to Briksdalsbreen in the Nordfjord.

On the sixth day, visitors travel to the Norwegian inland and the mountains, settling in Lom. They then head southwest to Sognefjord, Norway's longest and deepest inlet.

Two-nights are spent in the resort town of Balestrand.

Bergen is the final photo shoot, arrived at via a tour boat from Balestrand.

Two days are spent at this European City of Culture for 2000. Bergen is surrounded by seven mountains, and boasts an old-town harbor area full of maritime history.

The tour costs $3,685 per person. Air fare, meals and transfers are included.
