Port calls: Lines offer reduced rates

NEW YORK -- Several cruise lines are offering discounted rates on select sailings.

A sampling of the discounts follows:

• The American West Steamboat Co. is offering group tour discounts of up to 25% on its 2003-2004 departures.

The line also is offering on select cruises a "Very Best Buys" discount of up to $800 per couple on seven-night cruises or $1,200 per couple on 11-night cruises.

American West's 2003-2004 brochure -- featuring the line's new ship, the Empress of the North, is available.

• Peter Deilmann discounted some of its spring Europe cruises.
The Casanova, which sails on the Po River in Italy, for example, is discounted between $300 and $400 off the main cruise season.

Savings of more than $500 can be had on other cruises, including sailings on the Mozart and the Danube Princess, which sail the Danube River roundtrip from Passau, Germany.

• Star Clippers, meanwhile, set discounted rates on all three of its ships this spring.

A $400 per person discount on the Mexico-based Star Clipper is available along with free air fare to Cancun from select cities.

Guests on the Barbados-based Royal Clipper will receive a $300 per person discount plus free air fare to Barbados from Miami.

Free accommodations for four nights in Bangkok and discounted air fare is available on Phuket, Thailand-based sailings of the Star Flyer.
