Portugal's art museum slated

PORTO -- Portugal's first major museum dedicated exclusively to contemporary art will open here on June 6.

The Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art will feature Portuguese and international works. The museum project was coordinated by the Serralves Foundation, a partnership that includes the Portuguese government.

The facility will be located on the grounds of the Serralves Park, a 44.5-acre estate in the heart of Porto, Portugal's second-largest city.

Contemporary works are currently displayed in the Serralves House, a mansion and national landmark located in the park. The museum offers visitors a range of cultural events during the inaugural year of the museum.

Scheduled events include the Jazz in the Park series, now in its seventh year. Other events include classical concerts, dance performances, film and video screenings and symposia with artists and critics.
