Properties provide incentive to escape winter's chill

NASSAU -- Hotels are gearing up for the winter season with quick getaways, millennium bashes and new facilities.

A sampling of offerings follows:

  • The British Colonial Hilton in Nassau, which opens this month, is offering a free stay.
  • The 77-year-old hotel is tracing its heritage and giving a free night to guests who can provide memorabilia such as hotel bills, photos and postcards. Former guests with memorabilia should contact Carla Caccavale at (212) 868-1900, Ext. 227 or [email protected].

  • Pelican Bay at Lucayan, a recent addition to the Small Treasures program, added 21 guest rooms. The Grand Bahama Island resort now has 69 rooms, which feature ocean views, satellite television, direct-dial phones, minirefrigerators and balconies.
  • For the millennium, the property set a nightly rate of $180 for a superior room and $200 for a deluxe room. The rate is valid from Dec. 29 to Jan. 3, and a three-day minimum is required.

  • The Flamingo Bay Hotel & Ritz Resort on Grand Bahama Island claims to have opened the largest swimming pool in the Caribbean. The pool is 23,000 square feet and contains 720,000 gallons of fresh water. The pool boasts a children's walk-in section, a lap area, a swim-up bar, a 20-person Jacuzzi, three caves, fountains and an island in the center.

  • The Stella Maris Resort Club on Long Island created a weekend package that includes the price of the marriage license. Package components include the services of an officiant, a bouquet and boutonniere, a bottle of champagne and wedding dinner and cake for the bride and groom.
  • The wedding arrangements cost $300. The resort's seven-night honeymoon plan is priced at $1,299 per couple through Dec. 19. The honeymoon rate also covers a car rental for one day, scuba diving for one day, skiff fishing for one day and resort activities.

  • Club Viva Fortuna on Grand Bahama Island is offering a nightly rate of $120 per person, double, through Jan. 31 (excluding Christmas and New Year's weeks).
  • From Feb. 1 to April 22, rates at the inclusive resort start at $160. For families, children under age 7 stay and eat free when sharing a room with a paying adult. There is a 50% discount for children age 7 to 16 when sharing a room with two adults.

    The resort is also offering a 30% discount off millennium rates. A seven-night minimum stay is required for the discount.

  • Gogo is offering Supersaver rates (inclusive and EP) to the Radisson Cable Beach Resort in Nassau from cities throughout the U.S.
  • The Radisson Cable Beach in Nassua is offering Supersaver rates with Gogo as well as agent rates. For example, a three-night inclusive plan from Boston starts at $699 per person. Six-night plans start at $1,199.

    From Los Angeles, a three-night EP plan starts at $729 per person; a six-night package starts at $989.

    Rates are valid through Nov. 14 and include roundtrip, midweek air. Agents should contact their nearest Gogo agency.

    The Radisson also is offering agent rates through Nov. 15. The nightly inclusive rate is $99 per person, double. The EP rate is $79. Agents must show a business card and IATAN card when checking in.

  • The Ocean Reef Yacht Club & Resort in Grand Bahama Island unveiled a dive package available through Dec. 4.
  • The two-night plans with one dive cost $231 per person, single, and $290, double. The three-night packages, which include two dives, cost $364, single, and $470, double. The deal is valid Mondays through Thursdays.
