WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Two special offers and several new service improvements distinguish high-speed railway service on Thalys trains between Paris and Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.

Rail Europe here and Rosemont, Ill.-based DER announced that up to four kids under 12 ride Thalys free through April 3 (except on blackout dates) when accompanied by an adult traveling on a ticket purchased in North America.

The offer is good on travel between Marne-La-Vallee Chessy (Disneyland Paris) or Charles De Gaulle Airport and Brussels or Antwerp, Belgium.

In addition, the Thalys Weekend Special Roundtrip deal saves travelers up to 60% on Saturday and Sunday travel booked by Feb. 23 for travel through that same date.

Thalys Weekend Special roundtrip tickets cost $48 (second-class) or $74 (first) between Paris and points in Belgium; $74 or $98, respectively, between Paris and the Netherlands; and $60 and $86 between Paris and Germany.

On the service front, Thalys trains between Paris and Brussels now run every half-hour.

According to Bernard Frelat, president and chief executive of Rail Europe, high-speed rail between the cities has already proved so efficient that several airlines have discontinued flights on the route.

In other developments, a new platform for Thalys passengers at Paris Gare du Nord opened, while travel time between Brussels and Cologne time was reduced to two hours, 22 minutes and between Paris and Cologne to three hours, 54 minutes.

Agent commission from Rail Europe and DER ranges from 5% to 7%.
