Report: Machu Picchu tourists stranded

Forest fires threaten the railroad route to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, leaving about 300 tourists stranded on Monday, reported Spanish news agency EFE. 

According to EFE, passengers are stranded at mile 55 on the railroad connecting the city of Cuzco with Machu Picchu. Authorities have stopped trains from proceeding further due to forest fires.

Fires began Sunday about 12 miles from Machu Picchu, official sources told EFE.
