Res firm rolls out plan that's for the dogs

NEW ORLEANS -- When booking New Orleans, you can now make reservations not only for clients but for their canine companions, too.

Bed & Breakfast Inc., a bed-and-breakfast reservations firm here, unveiled the Bed & Biscuit service.

Options enable clients to share as much or as little of their good times with their pooches as they desire.

"We've found that people really miss their dogs, so we started the service," said Susan Smith, Bed & Breakfast Inc. manager.

"Guests can stay at a place that accepts dogs, but they don't have to. They can have them play with other dogs at day care, where they [the dogs] can also stay at night," she said.

Two of the 30 properties Bed & Breakfast represents accept dogs in rooms: the 1896 O'Malley House and the Chimes.

The firm also has an arrangement with Pooch's Palace Doggie DayCare.

Pooch's, which opened a year ago, has prices starting at $10 for half a day.

Its packages (noncommissionable) range from the Vacation Package at $20 a day up to the Five Paws package at $50, with overnight accommodations and extra services.

Packages include transfers, group supervised play and relaxation time (no cages).

Through August, dogs booked at Pooch's through Bed & Breakfast get a free herbal bath with nail clipping and ear cleaning.

B&B, founded in 1981, has properties ranging from homes with one guest room to luxury suites in mansions.

Summer discounted room rates, June through August, range from $50 to $195, with all properties also providing a fifth or seventh night free.

Rates during other periods are $60 to $252.
