MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica -- The Ritz-Carlton Rose Hall, which is scheduled to open in August in the Rose Hall plantation area of Montego Bay, issued rates for its first few months of operation.

American Express cardholders can reserve rooms that look out on the gardens and grounds for $149 a night or oceanview rooms for $169 a night.

Cardholders must use their American Express cards to settle their accounts.

Otherwise, it will cost guests paying by any other means $150 a night for rooms with views of the resort or $170 a night for oceanview rooms.

The rates are in effect from Aug. 14 to Dec. 20 and are per room, double, excluding taxes and gratuities.

After the promotional period expires, rates are expected to rise to about $290 per room, European plan.

The $137 million, 430-room Ritz-Carlton Rose Hall is one of the most anticipated new hotels in Jamaica in recent years and only the fourth Ritz-Carlton resort in the Caribbean.

One of the resort's main selling points will be the White Witch, an 18-hole, tournament-caliber golf course -- the first golf course managed by Ritz-Carlton.

The course managers are guaranteeing favorable tee-times for hotel guests. Sixteen of the resort's 18 holes will have views of the ocean.

The resort also will include an 8,000-square-foot spa that will use local plants and products in its treatments.

A spa menu will emphasize healthy cooking and local fruits and vegetables.

In addition, the Ritz-Carlton Rose Hall will have 17,000 square feet of meetings and banquet facilities and six food and beverage outlets.

Guests also will be treated to the hotel's private fleet of 11 custom-made buses and 10 Lincoln Town Cars to shuttle them on the 15-minute ride between the airport in Montego Bay and the hotel.
