The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will open an annex in New York's SoHo district in November. It will be the first annex outside the museum's Cleveland hometown.
"New York City is well known as a vibrant place for aspiring artists and musicians, and some of the most internationally celebrated musical performers of this century have had their start here on our streets," said New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. "It's only fitting that the role New York City has played in launching the careers of so many of the world's most talented artists on the world's greatest stages be recognized and honored with the opening of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame annex."
Planned exhibits include a New York Rocks gallery that will highlight key locations around New York that are tied to the story of rock and roll.
NYC & Company, New York's marketing organization, partnered with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum to help create the New York exhibit and develop cobranded merchandise and promotional items for the annex, including maps and itineraries so that visitors can build sightseeing activities around historical sites.
Several other themed galleries are planned, including the Cleveland Gallery, which will display items from the collection maintained at the original museum site.
Tickets will be available at www.rockannex.com beginning in October.
