Rome depot enters the 21st century

ROME -- Because my journey was composed of day trips from Rome, the city's Roma Termini train station became a focal point for my activities.

Like most of the city, the station had undergone extensive renovations in preparation for Jubilee 2000.

The goal was to make the station a hub for travelers and a place of social interaction; the station was redesigned to offer every service and amenity a traveler may need.

Some features include:

• Automated ticket kiosks that can handle transactions in English.

• Increased security.

• Bathrooms with showers that can be rented.

• Added shopping and amenities.

• Better signage.
