DALLAS -- Rosewood Hotels & Resorts was tapped to manage an upscale, 120-suite hotel in the Riviera Maya region that will be part of a mixed-use resort development called Laguna Kai.

The entire development will include the Rosewood-managed Laguna Kai resort, comprising a spa, shops and 70 privately owned villas that will be priced starting at $500,000.

Laguna Kai is scheduled to open by fall 2005, but developers will offer 30 of the resort's units for sale to prospective owners later this year.

Laguna Kai is the first phase of a larger, 1,600-acre resort development called Mayakoba, which will include hotels and three 18-hole golf courses, including one designed by Greg Norman.

Located about 30 minutes by car south of Cancun Airport, Laguna Kai will be surrounded by mangroves, a winding lagoon and a private beach. After checking in, guests will be taken to their rooms via a boat along the lagoon's waterway.

Tim Barton, chairman of JMJ Development, the project's Dallas-based developer, likened Laguna Kai to the Rosewood-managed Las Ventanas al Paraiso in Los Cabos for its anticipated level of service, privacy, exclusivity and upscale amenities.

Prices for Laguna Kai have not been announced.

For information or reservations, call Rosewood at (888) 767-3966 or visit the firm's Web site at www.rosewoodhotels.com. The Laguna Kai Web site is at www.lagunakai.com.
