SOFA show slated at Navy Pier

CHICAGO -- The sixth annual international exhibition of Sculpture, Objects and Functional Art (SOFA) will be held at the Navy Pier here Nov. 5 to 7.

SOFA, which has developed a nationwide following since its inception in 1994, has shows annually in Chicago and New York. Attendance at the Chicago show is expected to exceed 30,000.

SOFA Chicago 1999 will present three-dimensional artwork from about 80 galleries representing eight countries. Works by some 1,000 artists working in glass, clay, fiber, metal and wood will be on display.

The exhibit also will include a series of 30 lectures and panel discussions that are free to visitors.

The exhibition will be open Nov. 5 and 6 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and noon to 6 p.m. on Nov. 7. Admission is $10 a day or $16 for a three-day pass.
