SeaWorld to build 2nd theme park

ORLANDO -- SeaWorld Adventure Park confirmed reports that it plans to build a second theme park to open here in 2000.

The park would offer encounters with marine creatures and birds, a spokesman said. The park will occupy a 30-acre tract just south of SeaWorld, and construction will begin before year's end.

Because of its small size (SeaWorld Adventure Park in Orlando by comparison takes up 200 acres), there will be a cap on the number of visitors admitted.

The park's centerpiece will be a large pool that could be used for animal contact similar to SeaWorld's existing Dolphin Interaction program. There will be an island complex with several water areas labeled Stingray Exhibit and Coral Reef. A large exhibit area involving birds in an aviary is planned.
