Sheraton Hotels in the New York area are offering a collection of experiential packages for tourists looking for an alternative to glitzy, more mainstream Big Apple attractions such as Times Square or the couture boutiques of Fifth Avenue.
The packages, available through the end of the year, focus on four aspects of New York life and culture: Manhattan's history-rich Lower East Side, art and culture in Brooklyn, Staten Island's breathtaking views and South American influences.
"There are so many undiscovered gems in New York, and we want to provide our guests with unique arts, music and attraction offerings," said Dave Marr, vice president of sales and marketing for Starwood, Sheraton's parent company.
The packages are available at the Sheraton Manhattan at Times Square, the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers and the Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel & Conference Center in East Rutherford, N.J.
Four takes on New York
The Lower East Side Experience package includes a 10% gift shop discount and $5 off general admission to the Tenement Museum for up to four guests; a 20% discount to Il Laboratorio del Gelato ice cream parlor; two roundtrip MetroCard transit passes; daily breakfast for two; and two roundtrip New Jersey Transit train tickets (for guests staying in East Rutherford).
The Brooklyn Experience deal includes two discounted adult Brooklyn Passes for guests looking to take in the borough's arts and music scene or to sample its cuisine. The package also includes two roundtrip MetroCards.
The South American Experience, meanwhile, offers insights into local Argentinean influences. Rates include 50% off introductory tango lessons at Triangulo Tango Studio, 15% off at Pasita Wine Bar and daily breakfast for two.
Finally, Sheraton offers a discounted travel package to Staten Island to take in views of the Manhattan skyline. The Staten Island Experience includes Staten Island Ferry schedule upon check-in; two round-trip MetroCards or, at the Sheraton Meadowlands, two roundtrip New Jersey Transit tickets; an upgrade to a guestroom with Manhattan views (at the Sheraton Meadowlands); and daily breakfast for two.
