Less than a week after the United Arab Emirates government announced it was building SeaWorld and Busch Gardens theme parks in Dubai, it revealed that a Six Flags amusement park is coming to the city, too. Six Flags Dubailand will be the first Six Flags park outside of North America.
Tatweer, a government-owned developer, said the Six Flags park will be part of its Dubailand entertainment complex that is under development. Other Dubailand projects in the works are the Bawadi resort zone, the Tiger Woods Dubai (a resort and golf course), the Universal Studios Dubailand and the DreamWorks Animation Park.
The Six Flags Dubailand will feature entertainment franchises such as the children's musical group Wiggles and professional skateboarder Tony Hawk. The groundbreaking is expected to occur in 2009.
Tatweer and Six Flags also said they will collaborate on other Six Flags theme and water parks, branded restaurants, hotels and retail outlets throughout the region.
Dubailand is the vision of Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The first phase of the Dubailand project will end in 2010, and the final phase is expected to be completed between 2015 and 2018.
